Chula and Lady We have a visitor this weekend – my tiny dog friend, Chula, is staying with us for a few days while her Mom is out of town. To give you a better picture…Chula is a feisty 5 year old long haired Chihuahua that weighs maybe 5lbs. Our senior Labrador, Lady, is about 12 years old and weighs about 60lbs.The two dogs have never met before and I wasn’t sure how our old, sleeps all day, dog would take to this feisty thing. Their initial meeting I think was one of shock for Lady ” What the heck is this thing you brought home!”. Chula was jumping all over Lady trying to engage Lady in playing with her – which these days is very rare for Lady. But you know what – Chula did engage Lady, and I saw that playful spark come back to her eyes and it made me smile. This morning as I was trying to practice yoga, I had two dogs jumping over, around, and basically pushing me off my yoga mat. Not exactly the calming experience I usually have, but that’s OK because it was actually fun to watch. So instead of yoga I got my exercise today “walking” Chula. With Lady, walks are an extremely slow paced, stop every 2 minutes to sniff endeavor. With Chula, walks are an aerobic running race. Even my parents dog Muffin couldn’t keep up! No smelling for Chula – she was on a mission – to something – not sure what. I think overall, It’s been good for Lady to have this feisty visitor. And I think if Chula gained anything from the experience – it’s that you can’t be a dainty slow eater when a big food motivated Lab is in the house!
